The health room is located in the main office. Students are allowed to visit the health room for illness, injury and/or health support they may need. 

Sierra Middle School also has District Health Assistants that are trained in Basic First Aid/CPR and receive specific training and delegation from the School Nurse.

Colorado law requires students attending Colorado schools to be vaccinated against certain diseases unless a medical or non-medical exemption is filed. Parents looking to exempt their student from the required vaccines must provide either a medical or non-medical exemption form.  Non-medical exemptions require the parent to complete an online module.  More information about exemptions can be found at https://cdphe.colorado.gov/vaccine-exemptions.

• Seventh and eighth grade students may assume responsibility for bringing to school and administering their own prescription medication providing they carry only enough for one day, the medication is in the original container from the pharmacy with the students name and a non expired expiration date visible.  
• They must also have the “Permission to Self-Carry and Self-Admin Medication" form on file in the school office. 
• Students may self carry over the counter medication without a “Permission to Self-Carry” form provided they only carry enough medication for one day.  Any medication that is self carried by a student must be in the original labeled container with a visible non expired expiration date. 
• Students using poor judgment in carrying and taking their own medication will have such medication confiscated by school personnel, and parents or guardians will be notified. A structured plan will then be developed for the administration of the medication. 
• Any parent or guardian who chooses not to sign the permission to carry medication form may request that a structured plan be devised for his or her student.  
• Students who have emergency medication for life threatening health conditions should report to the office that they carry such medications in the event that an emergency renders them unable to respond as planned. The school nurse will contact such students to work out an emergency plan for the administration of this medication.

A concussion may affect a student’s ability to learn. Because every brain and every student is different, every concussion is different. Recovery time will be unique to each student, requiring an individualized approach to determine when it is appropriate to begin to return to athletic activity and full academics. Therefore, it is essential to have a concussion adjustment plan in place to help concussed students heal while continuing their education. 

Please notify the school nurse as soon as possible if your student is diagnosed with a concussion and we will work together with your student’s team of teachers to provide students support and guidance.
